Inspired by a fellow crafter, WS_sarah, I created this picture frame using a frame purchased at a garage sale for 50c. I primed the frame first, then arranged the skeleton parts and glued them on with a hot glue gun. I then primed the skeletons, painted them and used a black "stain" to fill out the details, then highlighted them to make them pop. I am a fan of Frida Kahlo, so it would seem appropriate to frame one of her quotes. Eventually, I will change the paper it is printed on to provide a better effect or may even add a picture to it. I really enjoyed creating this project and have another one that is already primed and ready to be painted. Stay tuned.
What was your inspiration?
Day of the dead, Frida Kahlo and of course a fellow Craftsy crafter, WS_Sarah. Thanks!
What are you most proud of?
I love repurposing old items into functional pieces of art.
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
Be patient, keep an open mind when looking at thrift stores, garage sales, and flea markets. You can turn trash into treasure. Look around you, keep eye on new crafting tools, paints and embellishments. You never know when you can come up with a reason to use em. Keep the design simple.
