What materials did you use? Red Pleather Exterior, and Shimmering Red Taffeta Lining--free motion quilted on cotton foundation. Magnetic Snaps.

What are you most proud of? I backed the taffeta to a cotton foundation fabric using free-motion quilting. I used Maxi-Lock Serger Thread in a color called "Lauren" (a perfect color match for the red taffeta) to do the free motion quilting. I can hear the thread purists out there gasping--that I'd use serger thread for free-motion quilting. Go ahead, Gasp. Quality thread is always best, but sometimes you gotta experiment, and in this case I needed a perfect color matched thread for free-motion quilting the red taffeta.

What advice would you give someone starting this project? Use a new machine needle when starting a free-motion quilting project, especially when sewing taffeta that can snag. Needles get dull. Dull needles cause stitching problems. If you have a problem with stitches: there are 4 quick things to do that may fix the problem. 1. Install a New Machine Needle. 2. Unscrew bedplate, Remove Bobbin, and Clean Bobbin Case with a Brush to Remove Lint. 3. Re-thread Machine. 4. Try a better quality of machine thread. In the old days, I used to call my mother to tell her I was having problems with my machine stitches. Each time, she'd review with me the above steps. It always solved my stitching problem. Thanks Mom.
