Materials

Dark Fudge Faux Leather Upholstery Fabric for the exterior, dark brown taffeta for the lining,

What was your inspiration?

The faux leather fabric is soft, supple, and glistens just like dark fudge.

What are you most proud of?

I designed a button closure lined pocket assembly--when sewn into the lining creates a double pocket. Then added, two deep drop-in pockets on the opposite interior wall.

I free motion quilt interior linings to a foundation fabric to provide firmness, durability, and a tiny bit of weight expected in a quality purse. Picking up this purse you immediately experience the soft faux leather exterior and the textured pattern of free motion quilted stitches over the silky taffeta lining.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

1. Lengthen your machine stitches when sewing faux leather.

2,. Not all faux leathers are created equal; some have a sticky, rubbery feel to the touch and will not glide easily over the machine surface when sewing--especially when top-stitching straps and horizontal trim.

3. BUYING TIP: pick up a corner of the faux leather and using a bit of pressure rub it against itself. If it doesn't glide, don't buy it.
