Instructions

I just took fabric scraps and sewed them into strips. Then I traced a store bought placemat and cut the strips to shape. I then arranged the shapes to look like flowers. After the flowers were machine appliqued in place, I added flannel as the batting and sewed on the binding.

I used a dinner plate to round the corners of the table runner.

Difficulty:

Category: Sewing

Type of item: Home Decor

For: Home

Style: Cute, Casual

Materials

Fabric and sketched shapes to create the daisies.

What was your inspiration?

I wanted to freshen the look of my kitchen and couldn't find a pattern, so I just started playing around with my scraps.

What are you most proud of?

The daisies! They were so easy to make and I like how they turned out.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Don't hesitate to sketch out your own designs for simple applique. Often, the sketch will turn out to be the perfect pattern.

This is so my kitchen. My kitchen is bright yellow, with cobalt blue and I absolutely love daisies so they're scattered. This set is absolutely darling. You did an amazing job, and now I'm motivated to make myself a set. Too cute!

is the dark thread around the daisies a machine stitch? If yes, what is the stitch length? Did you use a feathering stitch to apply it?

Deena, this fabric was purchased at JoAnn's. When I bought it last summer, it came in large and small print daisies. You may want to check online if they don't have it in your local store.
