Category: Sewing

Type of item: Clothing

For: Women

Style: Rock / Punk, Whimsical, Funky, Casual

Materials

Cotton jersey with Lycra, TAP transfer paper, procion dyes

What was your inspiration?

My 15 year old daughter loves printed shirts, the weirder the better. I made this scoop neck tee, then dyed it using Meg's method (bonus lesson). Next I let my daughter choose an image from Madame Bricolage on etsy. I printed it from the printer onto TAP transfer paper and just ironed it on. I'm pretty sure no one else will have this shirt at school!

What are you most proud of?

I tried something new. My coverstitch machine was acting up so I used the jersey stitch (on my new Bernina 530) for the hems and neckline. I like the look and it is nice and stretchy. It is a good alternative for coverstitch or zig zag.

Transfer paper from lesleyriley.com. I've heard it launders well, time will tell!

Jersey stitch looks great. I don't think my sewing machine has one though.

Jersey stitch. It looks like little loops. I was curious to try it out, I like it! You can see it in the close up photo.

Thanks! Talent, no. Tons and tons of practice. My first knit garments were a bit dodgy, each one gets a little better. Though you can see my stitching in the close up is a bit crooked! :)
