Instructions

I've made 4 or 5 of these tops. They're easy to make and flattering. I've found that following the pattern instructions to topstitch the binding distorts the binding. There hasn't been a problem for me in leaving out that step.

Difficulty:

Category: Sewing

Type of item: Clothing

For: Women

Style: Traditional

Materials

Jersey knit material from emmaonesock.com Simplicity 4095

What was your inspiration?

I like this style and I loved the fabric. The fabric is a lot prettier in real life than it photographs.

What are you most proud of?

I applied some of what I learned in the couture dress class: 1. 3 rows of gathering stitches really is better than two 2. Basting things in before you sew them does reduce problems.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

It's a fun style to make. Threads magazine had an article a few years ago about making this type of top, though I couldn't tell you what year or issue (2007, maybe.)

Cheryl you can absolutely handle sewing with knits. FYI, don't hesitate to try a slighly smaller pattern size.
