Instructions

This pattern is in Finnish, and my version of it is so heavily modified it's almost unrecognizable. I used the pattern for the lace, and the measurements, mostly.

Category: Knitting

Type of item: Clothing

For: Women

Style: Romantic, Retro / Vintage

Materials

Berroco Captiva about 8.5 skeins

What was your inspiration?

I wanted one to wear for bday dinner next weekend. I couldn't find a nice bolero pattern that I could be bothered with (can't stand the all written out patterns which go on for pages!), so I decided to take yet another 'clear as daylight' -Novita pattern, and just modified it to my needs.

What are you most proud of?

I'm quite enamored by the yarn. It has a lovely sheen, and though this looks romantically casual, it is certainly festive enough for a slow romantic dinner out....The pictures are from before I've gotten a chance to steam it to smooth the texture out a little bit.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

With Berroco Captiva I wouldn't try to fit any proper button closures, I tried (see the holes I haven't had time to close yet?). Cotton tends to pull in a very unpleasant fashion with buttons and distort the beautiful garment you've just made (yes, I know you know what I mean, just go and look at your own cotton cardi in the closet!). The two button on top with the open front is "just right", if you ask me.
