Instructions

Here goes a free pattern for a Croco-Flower. It’s quite easy... literally, just a couple of rounds that gives you an interesting 3-D effect. It can be worked in any yarn weight. However, heavier weight yarns like worsted or bulky weights works best to give it a sturdier texture. Even the good ol’ Red Heart Super Saver works fine for this flower. Enjoy it!

You are doing the stiches around the chain and not into indiviual chain stiches. Does that make sense?

It appears that the ch 2 should be at the tip/point of the pedal. My ch 2 is at the start of new loop. What am I doing wrong?

You just repeat what you did in the first petal: * [sc, hdc, 8 dc, ch 2, 8 dc, hdc, sc] in next ch-10 sp, rep from * around, join with sl st in first sc. Fasten off

I used this pattern as a gift box topper for my nursing school graduation. All instructors got one and they were thrilled more with the flower than the actual gifts. It was also the first time my crochet had been photographed by a professional and it was wonderful to see the pictures. Thanks for sharing this.

You get a lot of "bang for your buck" with this pattern. It works up in less than 15 minutes, and you get a lot of look for the time invested. It's very versatile as well, I can picture this on a hat, of course, but with appropriate embellishment, color, and yarn choice, can be easily used as a brooch or hair decoration! Thank you so much for the pattern.

Thanks diggysgram! When I came up with this flower, I was really on a time constraint and needed an extra touch for one of my hats. Some crocheted flower patterns can be quite time consuming, but this one is just only 2 rows. Funny you mentioned brooches, because whenever I always sew my flowers on brooch settings, so you can use in hats, scarves, jackets...

10 loops equals 10 petal in my count, not seven, what did I not understand? fun and easy except for the count
bonitapatterns on craftsy.com
Nov 23, 2011   Flag as inappropriate
Elayne, the stitch counting reads (7 ch-10 loops), which means you have 7 loops where each loop is made of 10 chains. Therefore, 7 petals ;-).

I'm glad you liked it. It makes a nice applique for hats. I originally designed it to go with my Crocodile Stitch Cloche pattern. I like to place crochet flowers on brooch settings so I can use them on different hats or outfits.
