I used the crochet instructions in this pattern. I made a necklace like the one in the pattern, then wanted to see what else I could make using the same technique.
Working directly from the spool, thread your beads on to the 28 gauge wire. I looped the wore around the spool once the beads were threaded to help keep the wire from kinking. The number of beads required will depend on the size of the crocheted piece. I used a seven stitch repeat as in Aga's pattern and completed 13 rows from start to finish. I suggest stringing 10 - 11 inches of beads. It's better to have too many than not enough.
Once you have completed your thirteenth row, cut the wire and secure the end. Do the same on the other end of the piece. You do not want any sharp ends poking out.
Using the round nose pliers, gently push the loops in your first row of crochet open so you can thread a length of 2 mm leather cord through the top. The length of leather will be determined by where you want your pendant to sit around your neck.

I used 22 gauge stainless steel wire to finish the ends of the leather and then used a simple s-shaped clasp I had made previously. What advice would you give someone starting this project?
Crocheting with wire takes practice. I'm still not as neat as I would like to be, but I'm slowly getting better. :-)
