Instructions

For the Baby Owlet hat I used a free Red Heart Yarn pattern for the earflap hat. I used the same pattern for the child size hat but I used ww yarn instead of the sport weight used in the patten and a larger hook. I did add one row worked even on the earflaps after dec down to 7 stitches. I think it is a little small for my 8 and 11 yr old models (the grandkids) so the next one I make for them I ...

Child size-Full O' Sheep 100% peruvian Wool (worsted weight) and 5 mm hook. Baby Owlet-DK weight unknown yarn from the good will store.

What was your inspiration?

As always, my grandkids. And nature. My two great loves.

What are you most proud of?

That the first one I attempted turned out so well.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Just experiment. Try different colour combinations. The next one I do will be in blues I think.

Tried my hand at a sock monkey hat last week, and the requests started flooding in for various animal hats. My niece wanted an owl hat, so this is PERFECT for that! I just needed a picture to go from, although I will look at the pattern to see if I can get any ideas to make it go smoother! Love the creativity!!

I get it now. Earlier I must not have expanded the text. It is very cute and can't wait to make it for my grandson. Thank you!

The pattern is for a yellow/white hat. Is there a pattern for the owl cap?

Hi. As I said in my instructions this is the pattern I used but the size will change depending on the weight of yarn you use and the hook size. With a few simple adaptions it can fit from newborn to adult. As for the colours, you are limited only by your imagination. Copy my colours or try different combinations. Two tones of blue look great with yellow in the eyes and as the trim colour. Solid purple works with pink trim and eyes and horns. Go wild and have fun.
