What was your inspiration?
I was inspired by the beautiful, rugged coastline of New England. One of my favorite beaches has a lot of beach stones scattered by the waves along the shore. I started collecting the round, oval and flat ones - working crochet stitches around them. Using a similar process to crocheting around a Christmas ornament. I really liked the way the lacy look of the crochet further softened the ruggedness of the granite.
What are you most proud of?
I am most proud of my stitching in crochet, knit, cross stitch or quilting. I used to hide the fact that I "CRAFTED." Now I am very proud and open that I make things for the home and for people to wear. I am especially proud that this past Christmas was entirely a hand/home made one.
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
Persevere - you are working with an object created by nature - no two are ever the same size - I ripped out a lot of rows before I got the sizing right. I also let the shape of the stone dictate the design - remain open, experiment and have fun!
