Crochet Edged Blanket

Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Crafty Crochet Embellishments »

Difficulty:

Category: Crocheting

Type of item: Home Decor

For: Children

Style: Cute, Traditional, Classic

Materials

fleece, crochet hook, rotary cutter, scissors, ruler, yarn

What was your inspiration?

I wanted to make a few projects that didn't involve working a foundation chain, as a way to introduce sewers and knitters to the craft. The foundation chain can be the most frustrating part, so this blanket requires none! Instead, we work into holes we poked directly into the fleece edge. (The scalloped edging shown is from the pillowcase project, also in the course).

What are you most proud of?

I love how fast and easy these are to make, and I took my time finding the perfect fleece and yarn combination. You can make one of these in about an hour--perfect for twins and triplets!

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Be sure to use fleece fabric-- it doesn't fray on the edges. Other types of fabrics won't hold up, but fleece is perfect for this project.

I would like to make this blanket. What do you use to make the holes in the blanket??? I am a beginner in crochet. Is there any requirement to take the Crafty Crochet Embellishments course? Can I pay it with pay pal???

You just need a reliable internet connection and the desire to learn! You can pay with a credit card or with paypal. In the class, I use a special rotary cutting blade to make the holes (see comment below), but I also discuss other ways you can make them.

I have been dying to make one of these! What did you use to make the holes for the border? I was thinking they have to have some sort of spiky, rotary tool. Thank you for your input!! :)

I used a rotary blade from Skipstitch.com. I go into depth about how to use it in the class, I highly recommend the tool!

Your crochet edgings are such a nice finishing touch! They turn a simple piece of fleece into something truly special!
