What is a Butin necklace and why is it supposed to be famous? I've never heard of it.

Don't know if it's famous but Butin is French for booty as in a pirate's loot.

is this knitting or crocheting. when i look up garter stitch it says knitting but you call it crochet butin

this version is crochet, I originally designed it in garter stitch but got alot of requests to do a crochet version, so I did : )!
