Instructions

This lovely lace scarf is named after its main pattern stitch "Crest of the Wave", a derivative of the popular Shetland lace stitch Feather and Fan or Old Shale. The main stitch area of graceful lacy waves is surrounded by a knit-as-you-go elegant ribbed openwork border.

Difficulty:

Category: Knitting

Type of item: Accessory

For: Women

Style: Romantic, Classic, Traditional

Materials

Mountain Colors Winter Lace Junior, color Chinook, 50% silk/50% wool laceweight yarn

What are you most proud of?

This is one of my favorite easy lace scarves to knit. The pattern is easily memorized, and it drapes so well in a wide range of yarn weights and fibers.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Allow 500 yards of lace or fingering weight yarn for 14" x 60" scarf, or desired length with yardage adjustment. 4 stitches/inch, size US 6 / 4.0 mm needles suggested. Shown above in 2-ply handspun silk yarn. Pattern has both charted and written instructions for the lace stitch patterns.
