I used 4 oven safe bowls (different sizes, depends on how big you want it) for baking the cakes and then carved them the way I wanted. I used the gumpaste recipe here off Craftsy for the legs, eyes and whatever that thing is for the mouth (copied off of many photo's of Ants). For filling I used buttercream (of course). What was your inspiration?
Got an order for an Ant Cake from Orkin pest control.
What are you most proud of?
Even though when I look at it I gag...I'm happy how it turned out so authentic looking.
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
Make SURE you are creating 3 LEFT legs and 3 RIGHT legs. After making the legs and preparing to put them on the cake I realized I'd made all the legs the SAME way! Easy fix, I just flipped 3 over, put fondant and hair on them and it worked (though I had to do the same with the other legs because the backsides were flat.
