What materials did you use? Basic quilting materials and those specified in the course materials.

What are you most proud of? Though I do not like the way the colors turned out, I'm happy to have followed the directions and figured out how to make the first block. I have one little spot I will need to add some glue to but the rest of the pieces landed where they belonged. I'm hoping that the embroidery will cover up the color issues.

What advice would you give someone starting this project? Trust that it will work because it does! But again, pay attend to the black lined drawings to figure out how your colors will land, that is, which ones will touch and which ones will not.

And don't forget to pull in some of that fabulous green from the corner into your handwork! If you can think of the block fabrics as your first "layer", and your handwork as the next one...they work together to make the whole composition. Sometimes having the block intentionally "unbalanced" is a great start, because it becomes very dynamic when you add the balance with your next layer. I hope that makes sense! Thanks for your work and for posting it, too!

Thank you so much for the ideas - that's just what I was hoping and your color suggestions are most helpful! Before I start embellishing I'm going to make one more of this first block using fussier fabrics and see which way works best for me!!

Thank you. I also took the Stupendous Stitching course and the instructor taught some of the same stitches for that course. Good instructors in both!! I also use YouTube a lot for tutorials.
