Instructions

I used 4 colors instead of 3, so on a few blocks, I had to watch the stitchout and change threads in the middle of a color stop. It's digitized with the edges of the flowers as the same color as the tree branches. A test block showed that that was way too dark, hence a color break that is not in the design.

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Home Decor

For: Other

Style: Classic

Materials

Quilting cottons and LOTS of embroidery thread

What was your inspiration?

This is my 3rd "tile scene". It looked challenging and I was ready for a new challenge.

What are you most proud of?

I finished it 6 weeks ahead of schedule and still did all 64 panels. The embroidery was pretty straightforward, just time consuming. The assembly was challenging. This class was a big help with that. Because the panels tended to be a bit stiff with all the layers of fabric and stabilizer, it was much easier to assemble this in sections. The spray basting tips worked so well that I will never pin baste another quilt again!

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Patience!!! I made the largest size which logged 85 hours of embroidery time (which doesn't count thread changes, hooping, applique trimming, etc). I probably have about 200 hours into it and 15,000 meters of thread (I buy 5000m spools which are much more economical!). It's NOT a quick project but the results are worth it.

Thanks. This is my addiction so all the work didn't really feel like work. I think the hardest part was the stitch-in-the-ditch quilting because the quilt is so heavy and somewhat stiff from all the layers involved.
