What materials did you use? I reused an Ivory colored embroidered lace from a late 1980's wedding dress that was given to me to see if my daughter could use it. It was 'dated' so we decided to reuse the lace. I placed sequins, silver bugle beads and seed beeds over the embroidery. In order to make the top, I had to sew together the lace sleeves from the old dress but that was not enough so I used a small amount of ivory organza and 'blended' it into one fabric. The solid fabric was a polyester blend 'weddng' fabric. Invisible zipper, large eyelet covers and thread to match. Hand sewing needles for the beading. A crinoline slip to give the skirt volume which in turn created an 'apron' in the front of the skirt. It wasn't planned but she loved it.
What advice would you give someone starting this project? Give yourself plenty of time. There is a lot of hand sewing due to the beading and the finishes. Also when you change a pattern, other things come up. Stay open minded and just go for it. I've never done a dress as detailed as this but I'm very happy with the outcome.
