Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Craftsy Block of the Month 2012 »

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Functional

For: Home

Style: Classic, Casual

What was your inspiration?

The Craftsy BOM Class

Myself - My FAVORITE size quilt (also for gifts) is a quilt 70 x 50". So that is why I didn't put a sashing on the side (it's at 51.5") and added the (FAT) 'Panio Keys' at the top and bottom to finish it off.

I KNOW I am going to do most of the quilting with my walking foot first.
Then I may add some quilting stitches with my embroidery machine OR - I MAY take the free motion classes more seriously! :-) :-)

What are you most proud of?

That I am this far :-)

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Keep working it until you're finished

Love this quilt and your use of fabrics, never considered using a small, print as the backround, great idea! Have been deciding on my binding but think I may use your piano key border instead, really sharp! Thanks for sharing.

I just love your quilt! That background fabric is fantastic! It brings everything together so well. I'm glad to know I don't have to put a border all the way around too. Hadn't thought of that and I really like your colored strips.

It is SO GREAT how we can 'feed' off from one another! - and sorta work together as a 'Team'. :-)

Just beautiful.....I have done the piano key borders before and love the way they look...really add to a quilt. Love your blocks. It is so inspiring to see all the finished tops. My blocks are done but think it will have to wait till next year as like so many others have to many other projects to finish first. Thanks you so much for sharing your beautiful quilt top....

I like your block placement and the piano key idea as a finishing technique to get the quilt to the size you wanted.

Sandie, your quilt is beautiful. I like the arraignment of your blocks & the piano keys with your fabrics is perfect touch. It is a really pretty the effect that your background fabric gives to your quilt. What ever you come up with in the quilting department will be perfect like your quilt. Thanks for sharing your progress. :-)

I told my Husband last night that this quilt is going to have to wait until the 1st of next year - as I have 2 Baby Quilts to make and 2 lap quilts to make BEFORE Christmas - as well as LOTS of other Christmas items to make yet! :-) (But I am sure that most of us are in the same boat!) Isn't it FUN!!! :-) :-)

I like the consistency of the quilting. And. . . how did you get the turtle made? I can't see the pieces? What size bed will this quilt fit?

Haven't Quilted it yet :-) and it doesn't fit a 'bed' - a 70x50" is good for a 'cover-up' when you are watching T.V., Reading a book, or just laying down for a nap. :-)

PS. The turtle is a variation of the Drunkards Path (of which I didnt have the size templates the class called for - so I made something out of the templates that I did have. :-)

WOW! This looks fabulous!!! Now that I've seen them all together, you really did a wonderful job with these blocks - especially the turtle and the big hexies. I also really like the variations you did on some of the blocks - so good looking.

Thanks Darns!!! It was a set of Fat Quarters that I had purchased (mail order) several years ago - so was glad to find a place to use them! (You are ALWAYS one of the FIRST to respond!!! :-) )
