Materials

Cheese box from a Deli Store ($1.00), decorating fabric (Joann's), sewing, hot glue, braid, rick rack or trimming, and batting

What was your inspiration?

A friend who lives in a small town in PA told me about these wonderful cheese boxes that the local grocer sells. We had a grand time discussing all of the possibilities for using them. Foot stool, sewing box, storage for yarn, doll clothes, books , magazine subscriptions, and more.

What are you most proud of?

I love how these boxes turn out. Each one is fun to make and there are so many ways you can decorate them. I've made 6 so far, they store lots of things while making an interesting addition to the room. They are pretty rough, being made from very light weight, pliable wood. With all of the fabric and batting that goes into covering them they become quite sturdy.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Keep your eyes peeled for unusual items that can be covered, painted and decorated and repurposed. It's so much fun to be creative.

Wheel sized cheddar cheese. Do you have any little speciality deli's nearby. My friends in that town led me to them, for just $1. I couldn't say no, even if I never covered it. I do have a thing for baskets and boxes.
