Couture shift

Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
The Couture Dress »

Instructions

I didn't use the pattern included with the course as it didn't really suit me, I used a simple princess seamed shift dress.
Also I apologise for the photos, I was at a wedding and I'd had some champagne!
Also in the last photo (which was the first of the day) I am wearing my jacket I made from the Sew Retro Starlet Suit Jacket course

Difficulty:

Category: Sewing

Type of item: Clothing

For: Women

Style: Classic, Traditional

Materials

silk duppioni, silk organza, silk crepe de chine

What was your inspiration?

My sister was getting married. I had to wear at least some clothes

What are you most proud of?

I'm really pleased with the whole outcome. It was a burda pattern (normally I would draft my own but didn't have time) so I did a full bust adjustment. The organza backing really does make a huge difference to how it looks and wears. I'm still not 100% sold on the handpicked zipper vs a concealed one, but i can see how a handpicked one would be so much better had I had seamlines to match.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Don't be afraid of all the handsewing, it really isn't much more effort than machine sewing, and it makes a huge difference in results.
