What was your inspiration?

I need some help from more expiernced fitters out there!

I am very short waisted, and so to help with this I pinned up the top of the shoudlers by 1.5" or so. But there are other issues. I think the bodice may just be too big. I made it per the pattern measurements, but it didn't work out. I am thinking about making a smaller bodice and attaching it to the midriff and skirt that I already made.
HELP - I need advice.

LittlePink Kiwi - thanks for the advice and input, I hope to get another bodice made today if possible and then post some more pictures, but I have pie crust to make today too. Happy Thanksgiving!

I looks like you need a smaller size in the pattern, it's too broad for you and that's what's causing the bagginess around your armholes and in the back. I use the armcrease measurement technique Susan talked about in the video lessons to get the right size for me and it's a size smaller than the measurements on the pattern envelope said I should be. You just measure across your chest from arm crease to arm crease (the crease you have where the top of your arm meets your chest when your arms are at your sides). A measurement of 14" means that you'd be a size 14 and then you go up or down a size for each half inch, for example I'm 13.5" so I'm a size 12. If you're 14.5 inches you'll be a size 16 and if you're 15" you'll be a size 18. I hope this helps. Judging by the fit of this toile and your body shape I think once you get the right size you'll need minimal adjustments to make it fit you perfectly. Post more photos when you get another toile done if you're still having problems

I am reading up in the book that Susan recommended for fitting then I will do the alterations. I think for the fashion fabric I am going to do a lace overlay on satin/silk. I will keep posting pictures!

Okay, sounds good. Her daughter Emily fit so easily into the dress and has a fantastic figure,, but the rest of us not so much. I bought that fitting book Susan recommended (very expensive) and am going to peruse it tonight to look for some guidance. I am thinking too, to remake the bodice. According to my measurements, I shoudl fit an 18, but it is too big. I will let you know what I figure out.

Good job getting the muslin together and recognizing where you need to make adjustments! I am also short waisted - I am short shoulder to bust point AND bust point to natural waist and I found that for really good fit, I need to adjust both. I also purchased the book Susan recommended and used it to think about alterations. Interestingly, I had the same uneven midriff issue as well. I ended up moving the shoulder seams back. Since I am new to sewing, I enrolled in a local sewing class where you can work on any project. That instructor helped me get the right fit and offered some good tips - don't know if that is an option for you. Oh, and I found that if you post a question in the lesson area (not the discussions) Susan is pretty good about getting back to you. Good luck!

I think Susan K. answers questions if you post them in the actually segment of the class. There are also fitting tutorials on Threads.com. After I took this class I realized that bodice fitting is one of the hardest parts of sewing like this. I am short-waisted, too, so please share any insight you get!

Is this going to be sleeveless, or are you adding sleeves? I made a jacket and found that the muslin fit differently in the bust after I put them in, and I needed the extra fabric.

Ah, well, I will try to add the sleeves to see what kind of fabric I need to take up. Right now, there is a LOT that is gaping under the arms.

I read in a cheesy Sewing With Nancy book that you select pattern size based on the measurement between the two creases above your armpits, and not the bust size. The you adjust the bust, waist, etc. but the shoulders and sleeves fit better. So you may want to try a size down.

Cheesy huh? I think I have the same book. I also got the book Susan recommended, and am studying that. I am sure it is used as a text book at BYU, it is a huge book. I also am going to cut out a smaller bodice just to see how it fits.
