Instructions

This is Simplicity 1715, one of the Amazing Fit patterns. I followed Susan's steps for fitting and constructing. I made the skirt lining gathered rather then pleated so that I wouldn't have pleats back to back at my waist.

Dress fabric is an Oscar de la Renta wool/sick woven from Mood. Underlined with silk organza and lined with silk crepe de chine.

What are you most proud of?

Getting my seams matched up and finishing before 2013.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Go for it. None of it is hard; it is just time consuming. Susan's techniques actually make it easier to get a dress of which to be proud.

Thanks so much. This wool/silk was pretty easy, as was the silk twill. The linings haven't been so easy. For the charmeuse lining, I had to hand baste all of the seams to make them behave. For the crepe de chine, I only hand basted the princess seams.

You inspire me! I need to go clean my sewing studio now. The fit is superb. Did you have a fitting helper? Did you use any part of the first dress muslin/measurements on this one or did the pattern itself help you with the fit? The fabric is perfect and the inside is amazing. Susan should be proud too! Keep sewing. I'm watching you!

You are very kind. My mom helps me with the fitting. I started anew with this pattern, but the pattern comes in slim and A cup pattern pieces so it almost fit out of the envelope.
