Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
The Couture Dress »

Difficulty:

Category: Sewing

Type of item: Clothing

For: Women

Style: Classic

Materials

Fashion fabric (purchased at The Common Thread, here in Austin, TX): Cotton chambray - Blue threads warp and orange-y weft makes it iridescent! Underlining: Silk Organza - Sort of a flesh/golden color Lining: TBD - Want to get a patterned silk of some kind, but something that won't show through...

What was your inspiration?

I was inspired by the two colors in the chambray fabric. The lining is the color of the weft threads of this chambray. It looks so cool next to the fashion fabric. I made a brooch out of leftover fabric and the orange-y selvedge makes a beautiful outline on the petals.

I'll take pictures soon of the finished dress in its entirety.

What are you most proud of?

I'm most proud of the fact that I didn't give up all those times I wanted to :-).

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Deciding to keep going really helped me keep learning. I screwed up the kick pleat on the back of my dress, and a bunch of other things, but I learned so many useful techniques doing this that I continue to use over and over on other projects. Stay with it!!

LOL! I have camera issues, plus I want to fix the kick pleat before I send it out to the universe. Maybe I should just get over that! Happy you are my craftsy friend!!

Beautiful fabric. How far along are you? I'm working on my muslin.

I've got it sewn together. It is a sleeveless, so I still need to determine the exact placing of armholes, stay stitch and press, and then make the lining.
