Materials

I'm using fabrics from my stash for this project. The teal is a slightly stretchy poly/rayon. The print is a poly charmeuse I got from Jo-Ann's.

What was your inspiration?

The teal Maria Pinto dress Michelle Obama wore to the 2008 Democratic National Convention was my inspiration for this project.

What are you most proud of?

So far, I am most proud of my sticking with the muslin process. Fitting my figure has been a process, but I hope the end result will be well worth it!

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Two pieces of advice so far: You will learn a lot and hang in there!

Good work. Nice to see someone else making one muslin after another in this class. Im going for my third. Im taking Megs class the Sewing with knits course in between - easy to follow and I have done two Hoodies and a t-shirt without muslin

I'm glad I've done all the muslin work on this pattern and will have a well-fitted sheath dress pattern to use after all is said and done. Good for you to stick with the process, Eva. I keep hearing that knits are so much easier. I'd love to sign up for another craftsy course if the platform would cooperate with the devices I use. I signed up for J. Stern's fit your tee to a t video class on patternreview in the meantime. Those videos play on any machine I use.

Wow its looking reaaly good. Great idea removing the band. Darn I wish I thought of that. Really makes the shape much more attractive on you.

Thanks Scheri. I'm so short-waisted the midriff band looked terrible on me - even after making it thinner. I'm a slow sewer without couture techniques! I'm hopung to have the (final) dress done by Inauguration Day 2013 :).

Hey there! I love your muslinwork!! Seems like you simply eliminated the waistband which is a good chioce Id say. Makes your upper body look really long and relaxed. Alternatively you could have gone into the skirt with your waistband by just cutting off about 5 cm of the skirtwaist and stick them to your waistband. Just in case you are sorry for leaving away the band. Thank you so much for sharing your fittings!

Thanks for the suggestion. I had been trying to follow the lessons exactly & eliminated. the midriff after the 2nd muslin. It just didn't work for my short-waisted, top-heavy self.
