Materials

Cotton fabric from my STASH (which is getting bigger, not smaller), embroidery threads, fusible webbing, lightweight wadding and thread.

What was your inspiration?

My mum was in a Thrift Shop and found some quilting magazines and thought I might like to have them for some inspiration. I don't think I would ever buy one of these myself but there are some lovely things in them. I have my eye on an elephant quilt with the Taj Mahal in it! No pressure!!!

What are you most proud of?

I had never done applique before, thought it was for the folk art crowd. But browsing through the magazines it got my fingers itchy to try something new. I love this little piece. It is going up the country to hang in our caravan. The picture is so typical of our old style way of life when things were so much simpler than what they are today.

I wasn't sure how to border it, what to border it with etc. I was happy with just the brown frame and was unsure of the colourful edge piece but I am really happy that I included it, it has brought out the colours in the picture better.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Have fun and enjoy the process. Very relaxing.
