What was your inspiration?
This quilt was made as a surprise gift for my 3 sons' uncle and aunt's 50th wedding anniversary in 2008. The prints all have a rose theme pattern, and I used heart motifs to machine quilt it The lining was embossed white roses. I hope they don't wash off when laundered, but I doubt it will ever be washed. I wanted to make it as romantic as I could. I machine pieced it and It won the 2008 Franklin Co Fair Best of Show. My next door neighbor, Lynda, got a blue ribbon for her quilt that year, but beat me in 2009 when I entered my Double-Bitted Ax quilt.
What are you most proud of?
That I was able to give a champion quilt to Clifton and Glenda. I attended their wedding in September, 1958. I married Clifton's older brother, John Dave, in May of the same year. Unfortunately we never got to have a 50th anniversary, so it was important to me to help make sure theirs was happy..
I thought the label that I made for their quilt was kind of neat and appropriate.
I think it all came together pretty well. They are proud of it, and still consider me their sister as we all grew up together from teenager's.
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
I can't think of anything that was out of the usual. Just follow pattern instructions. If you make a mistake take it out and keep trying-you will get it right and learn from it.
