Instructions

I saw the idea of taking a sweatshirt and sweat pants and sewing a boa down the back for a skunk costume - Connor is two months old and I couldn't find plain black sweatshirts so I decided to sew him a jumper with a hood instead (out of micor fur of course and lined in polar fleece because our Halloweens are cold).

Difficulty:

Category: Sewing

Type of item: Costume

For: Children

Style: Whimsical, Cute

Materials

McCall's pattern M5963 view D with the hood from view A a fuzzy boa and two cat ears

What was your inspiration?

Connor needed a Halloween costume and his Daddy thought a skunk would be cute.
His Mommy reminded me that if you have to explain your costume it is not a good costume so thank goodness this costume really does look like a skunk in person!

What are you most proud of?

Everyone who sees the costume in person just loves it - the boa is the best part and the micro fur is so soft!

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Don't be scared let your imagination run wild! Instead of adding a tail I choose to let the extra length of the boa be it - I looped it and pinned it in place and everyone just loves it - it is so fluffy ( a few twists help too) - his Mommy insisted we needed fluff in the ears so I cut some off of the end of the boa and used that for the fluff. As always Mommy was right the fluff in the ears did help!

The only reason I gave it a 3 for difficulty is because you have to know how to read a pattern and sew.
