Completed BOM 2012 Quilt

All done!

Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Quilting Big Projects on a Small Machine »

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Home Decor

For: Other

Style: Funky, Whimsical, Cute

Materials

Cotton fabric, thread, and batting.

What was your inspiration?

The quilt blocks for this quilt were part of the Craftsy Block of the Month 2012 Class, but I had to upload a photo to Ann's class as well, because I machine-quilted this project and learned how to do that through Ann's instruction.

What are you most proud of?

I'm proud that the whole quilt is my work - from start to finish.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Ann Petersen gives you a lot of helpful information for how to handle a large quilt on a small machine. Her advice and illustration gave me confidence to keep at this, and learn how to do it. It takes time, but I AM REALLY PROUD that I machine-quilted this myself. (YAY!!!)

Great job! I am working on mine now but doing the block by block quilting method. Love that you used different colors in the sashing.

I used scraps from the quilt for the sashing, so it pulls it together nicely and echoes the fun feel of the whole thing.

The blocks are from the 2012 Craftsy Block of the Month free class. The sashing and the borders are my own selection. Have you signed up for the 2013 free BOM?

You are absolutely right to be proud of yourself - this is a truly magnificent quilt! The colours are lovely and the piano-key border just finishes it off beautifully. Clever you, to quilt the whole thing on a domestic machine - I had to resort to the quilt-as-you-go method so I think I probably need Ann's course!

It's still pretty hard to wrestle the huge thing on a domestic machine, even though the harp on mine is a little bigger than most.... and I DO recommend Ann's course for great ideas and just getting the confidence to do it

Thanks! I agree on the "start-to-finish" making the difference in my own mind about really owning the whole thing. (Thanks for giving me enough confidence to do it through your course, Ann!)
