What are you most proud of? Re-discovering the fabric in my stash which I've been building for the past 20 years.

What advice would you give someone starting this project? If you want to understand more about colour and feel confident about using colour in your quilts, then this is a great way to learn. I have spent hours just gazing and challenging myself to find examples of colour interactions, and absorbing it all.

Wow! You have a swatch of all the fabrics in your stash? That's amazing. Well done!

I do and I'm feeling good about it. I couldn't see why I kept on buying more fabric without being familiar with what was already there. It's turned into a great exercise and I've learned a lot about colours/scale/value as a result.

Fantastic. Was it easy or hard to arrange?

Sorting into values and colours was really the best part. It challenges you to decide how yellow or how blue that swatch of green is. You can discover the answer by comparing the swatch to a green that you know is more yellow and one that is more blue. The true character of your swatch is revealed.

Value comparisons get easier every time you do this. If the value of two pieces is close, I use a piece of red plexiglass to help me decide which piece is darker than the other.

What a terrific idea to get reacquainted with your fabric stash. What type of glue did you use to attach your samples to the paper and each other?
