Color Play-Sjon's Yarn

Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Spinning Dyed Fibers »

Difficulty:

Category: Spinning

Type of item: Functional

For: Other

Style: Cute, Whimsical

Materials

polwarth!, kool-aid

What was your inspiration?

I wanted to make another "happy" yarn for my friend. But I'm very new to dyeing and I'm only using kool-aid which produces bright colors (until you learn some other techniques, which I haven't yet). After dyeing this, I thought the colors might be WAY too happy for her. So, remembering some advice from this video, I plied the colors against one another to see if that could tone down it down a little bit. It's still very happy. But, it's a more complex happy and a little subtler happy than it was, I think. I like it!

What are you most proud of?

Not being afraid to keep playing with these colors. I love bright colors anyway. But, I can even scare myself sometimes!

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Watch the video (Felicia Lo's Spinning Dyed Fibers). It's great!

Thank you! I was actually just lusting earlier this week over some spinning fiber a blogger said she got from Sweet Georgia Yarns, lol. You have gorgeous fluff!
