What was your inspiration?
I really just wanted to make something wearable. I found this super cute pattern from the burda style site (and it's free!).
As you can see in the pictures, it is really tight in my bust, but other than that, it fits in all other places. I'm quite chesty as it is, so I'm not surprised that it needs adjusting there, but I'm really happy that it fits nicely in the waist and arms.
Note that the dress isn't quite finished yet, I still need to hem it. I was thinking of adding a different colour material to the bottom instead of an ordinary hem. Any thoughts on how I should/could finish it?
What are you most proud of?
The fact that I made a garment that is actually wearable out of the house! I know a friend of mine will love it, and it will fit her beautifully. It has darts, french seams, an invisible zipper, and facings for the armholes and necklines.
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
Make a toile and adjust it before you adjust the pattern. I did make the toile, but I was a bit hasty and adjusted my pattern without actually modifying the practice garment (d'oh!). If I hadn't been in such a hurry, the bust may have fit much better. Oh well, lesson learned.
