Sewing: Clothesline Tote

Clothesline Tote

Is this your project? Can you share instructions or a pattern with the Craftsy community?

Difficulty:

Category: Sewing

Type of item: Accessory

For: Women

Style: Funky, Casual

Materials

One Batik JellyRoll . Clothesline.

What was your inspiration?

I've seen several of these over the years, got on the internet, figured out the basics, then made my own.

What are you most proud of?

That I finished it! This is a LOT of work, I LOVE the result, but I'm not sure I'd tackle it again.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

You can see the result is really neat, pick colors you like and have at it.. it's not hard, just time consuming. For everyone who has asked, you can get a pattern for this from www.clotilde.com, they have lots of patterns for clothesline items including several types of bags/totes. Thanks for the compliments :)

Hi- I made a similar tote and I am baffled on how to attach the cord to the purse (for the closure). I do not have a finished edges - as you do. Any suggestions?

Hi, you could do a couple of things, sew it on as I did, and cover the ends with buttons, or use those great big grommets to make a hole in the bag and feed the handles through and tie a big knot in the end...

Love this bag...I've done bowls & baskets, but not sure how you get the nice 90 degree edges.

Balipop strips are prepackaged color coordinated 2 inch stripsX40.....they make these kind of projects so easy...well less time consuming in the cutting of the strips...I have bought many of these packages on ebay...much cheaper than in the stores....Keep sewing!!!!

yep, this was made with 2 1/2 strips so anything like that would work...

That is a beautiful bag! It would be great as a picnic bag, to hold the serviceware & napkins and such. Or a beach bag. I haven't looked at your pattern yet, so I have to ask -- did you sew a bunch of strips together? I'm guessing that's what was time consuming. Such a gorgeous outcome, though!

I went to utube and there are instructions on how to wrap the clothesline, then I zigzagged all of the lines together and made a simple tote, I do know that clothilde has patterns for this type of bag.
