NO MUSLIN :0
My Measurements are:
High bust 38" Bust 42" Waist 37" Hips 42. I cut out the size 16 based on my high bust measurement. Based on the pattern size of 16 I would need to add 5 inches to the waist. Opps I forgot and I was so surprised to find that the pattern had that much ease because with no alterations I can fit the size 16. Please pick pattern size based on high bust. ...

Materials

All you need is a good tailored shirt pattern, basic sewing machine, thread, buttons and seam ripper, scissors, iron and sleeve board.

What was your inspiration?

I watched the entire online class, made notes and thought that I would love to make a nice classic tailored white shirt. Had a really pretty cotton and silk blend very sheer fabric with a small floral print and buttons to match.

What are you most proud of?

That I used her technique in doing all my flat felled seams. I purchased the special felling foot for my BabyLock Decorators choice and was not that impressed so off it came and on I went with Pam's technique. Perfect results with great control.

Did you see that collar?

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Open your mind up to possibilities. It;s not just a class on how to make a classic shirt. This class has lots of options where you can take your creative process. How about a jacket. Yes jacket she has some wonderful examples she shows in the classroom. How about using a silk dupioni? Denim?

After this class my next project is a unlined denim classic jacket pattern M5860 in a silk dupioni and a pair of AW#4200 classic boot cut jeans. Between this class on The Classic Tailored Shirt and the Unlined Jacket Class on Pattern review the jacket is going to be a breeze with Pam and Angela's class.

Hi WonderWooman18. The pattern I used has princess seams which makes it easier to get a nice fit.

This shirt is beautiful Scheri. I don't know where you find the time. You must be a very busy lady. Where were you lucky enough to find the matching buttons? And did you buy the fabric locally?

Your shirt turned out great. I love the pictures you take to let us see the smaller details of the shirt. How does it fit you? Did you have to make a lot of fitting alterations? I have bought the pants fitting and construction classes. I want to learn how to make clothes to fit me. You were lucky to find buttons to match your shirt!! Looks great.

I cut a 16 based on upper bust and had planned on making my usual flat pattern alterations of FBA 1" and add 5" to waist. Let it for a day or two went back and cut it out and started to sew. I completely forgot to make alterations. But guess what it fits. It fits perfectly .

What a nice fabric. It gave the shirt a more feminine look. I have not started that class yet. Working with knits (Megs class). Meg is a lovely teacher and knit is so forgiving when it come to fit - no muslin this time.... I still working with a new (no 3) muslin for the Couture dress, that is a never ending story, very educating.

Scheri, this is beautiful. I need to take this class. My son and a couple of friends are asking for shirts. I have David Page Coffin's book on shirtmaking and am reading through it. I'm most interested in making the flat felled seam. I'm wondering if the Bernina foot will work any better. It was bold of you to not make a muslin. I think your fitting skills must be getting to the point that a muslin is needed only for closely fitting garments. Congratulations on beautiful work!
