Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
The Classic Tailored Shirt »

Instructions

Kwik Sew 3422 is a classic men's shirt. The sizing is huge. My husband's chest measurement made him a size L, but after pin fitting it was apparent the garment was too big. So half way through I recut a size M and still took in lots at the side seams. Next shirt from this pattern I will cut a size S because the current fashion is for closer fitting shirts and these do suit him better.

What was your inspiration?

Pam Howard of course! She has the loveliest manner and a very calming gentle voice. The explanations are fabulous.

What are you most proud of?

This is the best collar I've ever made - ask my friends, I kept showing them photos at coffee - "check out my collar"!

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Despite my having measured against hubby's existing shirts, I still erred on going with the pattern measurements. David Coffin-Page says you should choose a shirt by the yoke size and work from there. Wish I'd read that prior to cutting, the yoke fell off his shoulders and he is a broad fella and very athletic.
Just take the first shirt step by step with Pam, trust in the process, Pam will get you there!
Excellent class and for me one of the most useful learning curves I've been on!

Hi!, What a great job you've done on your husband's shirt!! I agree with you that your collar (among all other things) is ''spot on''. :-)) Lovely fabric as well. I'm sure he will get lots of wear and many compliments. Many thanks to you for your compliments on my class, I really appreciate it:-)) Keep making beautiful shirts. Thanks, Pam
