Classic Shirt No. 5

Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
The Classic Tailored Shirt »

Instructions

I love this class. Pam is great. I learned so much. This shirt was to have long sleeves, but instead of cutting the bodice part of the seam allowance I cut the sleeve part. I did not have enough fabric to make another long sleeve, so I decided on short sleeves.

Difficulty:

Category: Sewing

Type of item: Clothing

For: Women

Style: Classic

Materials

Fabric remnant- cotton, lightweight

What was your inspiration?

Pam's teaching style is so non threatening. I like how she does everything in units. I enjoy making shirts so much I can't stop.

What are you most proud of?

On this shirt I'm very proud of the pockets - my first time - and the buttonholes. Also on this shirt I adjusted the pattern to allow for my forward rotated shoulders. Still having problems with getting the collar band just right.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Shirt making isn't as hard as it seems, especially following Pam's instructions. Give it a try you will become addicted.

Thank you! The fabric is a cotton remnant I got from a fabulous store here in Vegas - Heddi's.

Hi Calumn! Another great shirt! I really appreciate that you decided to change your plan and make the shirt a short sleeve version instead of scrapping it due to a cutting error. You turned this into an opportunity for a design change :-)) Great pockets and buttonholes! Thanks so much, Pam
