Civil War Quilt top

Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Re-Piecing the Past: Civil War Blocks Then & Now »

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Functional

For: Home

Style: Traditional

What was your inspiration?

Kaye England's class Re-piecing the Past

What are you most proud of?

Finishing!!! Actually, I'm trying to decide if I want to add another border or not. I think it is just
the right size to go on the back of my sofa without adding a 5 inch border....Need to think about this
a little bit.

Love your colors...very warm and inviting. The color combinations are beautiful together. looking at all these blocks makes me want to finish up some other projects so I can start this class.

Seeing this makes me want to finish mine up. I have the blocks done and working on sashings. All scraps. I think I am going to put on a solid, one fabric border and already have the perfect red fabric in my stash.

Looks wonderful and I'm jealous you got yours done. I got swamped with customer quilts and haven't been able to work on my own stuff, can't wait to get back to it now that I have seen yours done.

How cozy & inviting! Can imagine being wrapped up in this one - great job with color & getting contrast in the blocks. I think I would go with another border but waiting to get it right is good.

It looks SO GOOD!!!! (I BEST get busy! - just SO many other things going on!) I think that KAYE'S class is going to be 'one of the best' as far as teaching goes AND the resulting quilt each of us are going to have out of it. Good work! I'm Proud of you! :-)

Thanks. The connector pieces took almost as much time as the blocks! But in the end, it was worth it. This was a great class. Kinda sad for it to be over. This has been my favorite class.

I had to take a minute to make that very same decision. I went with another border. I kinda liked it without that outside border. But I also think I was kinda just spending time with my quilt admiring. lol

Yeah, I've spent some time admiring too. But I also can't decide on a color for the outer border. I'm gonna just leave it on the wall a little while and see if any inspiration strikes. :)

I cant wait to see other finished quilts. This class was like a good book. I was sad when I turned the last page.

Oh wow! I knew it was gonna be awesome. And it is! The colors are so beautiful! You spray baste your quilt layers?
llhyman on craftsy.com

I haven't ever tried spray basting. I'm thinking about hand-quilting this one because I haven't done that in a while.

I don't spray baste either, but at first glance it looked like it was. :)

I have it hanging on a piece of batting that is pinned to the wall. I use that as a design wall. :)

Thank you! These were mostly fabrics that I already had. I did pick up some fat quarters from a local quilt shop also. I tried to use what I thought looked like reproduction fabrics.

This is beautiful. Were these fabrics from the Craftsy site or something you chose yourself? You did a wonderful job.
