Civil War Blocks- Repiecing the Past

Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Re-Piecing the Past: Civil War Blocks Then & Now »

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Functional

For: Home

Style: Retro / Vintage, Classic, Traditional

Materials

My stash :)

What was your inspiration?

My interest in the time period was my initial interest in taking the class. After the introduction, I was totally hooked on Kaye's style and approach! I hope she will do another Craftsy class soon!

What are you most proud of?

I learned not only how to make the blocks presented in this class, but Kaye gave us tools to take with me, but throughout out quilting life! My abilities were challenged, but with the great instructions given, I met them and I believe I did quite well, if I do say so myself!

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Take lots of video notes. Pay close attention to how the cuts and blocks are made and why they are done. When you learn these things, not just blindly following what the instructions say, you can make any quilt you want. You can expand or reduce to make any block you want :) and most of all, ENJOY!

You should be very proud of yourself, having made such an intricate and beautiful quilt. Well done! (From another English quilter!)

thanks patzinsuffolkuk :) You don't have to be an American to enjoy a Civil War quilt :) I am working on a creative back for this in another craftsy class.

From an English quilter, it's lovely! I'll have to do this class as your quilt is superb. Congratulations.

Thanks Jean :) it IS one of the more expensive classes offered by craftsy, but it is well worth it! Kaye England is such a great instructor. And she gets right back to you if you have a question. Her approach shows you how to take what you learn and apply it to other projects. I learned soo many tips and inspirations... it is awesome!

thanks desna :) I finished it late at night, so I folded it and put away until the next morning when I took it out on my deck to photograph it. I didn't notice how wrinkled it looked until I posted!
