Share a little about the materials, processes and techniques used to create this piece. Wanted to emulate a encostic painting using acrylics. Built up multiple layers of paint and both gloss and mat medium. At the end of this process l was still not satisfied so l cut a stencil of the bird and taped it to the canvas. Proceeded to fill it with different colors of gesso. Let dry. Pulled stencil away and sanded through the layers on the bird to revel the colors. More layers of paint and medium.

Quite the process. I worked on three canvases. All very enjoyable. With all of the layers and having to wait for drying,it took several weeks. Depth of layers no apparent in photo but quite thick. I achieved what l set out to do.
