Churning Fassets

Front

Front

Instructions

I used the traditional churn dash block for the front. The back was created on a design wall. I drew one large churn dash block on a low-tech piece of graph paper, and used colored pencils to determine placement. Left-over Kaffe scraps were used to build up the back.

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Functional

For: Home

Style: Funky, Mod

Materials

The quilt was made from Kaffe Fasset prints and various black and white commercial prints.

What was your inspiration?

I enjoy seeing traditional blocks used in unconventional ways.

What are you most proud of?

This was my first large machine quilted piece.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

You absolutely must use a design wall to make sure you've placed the values correctly. Errors can't be seen easily when laid down flat, but they jump right out at you when they are on the wall.

Thanks guys. I must admit it's the first time I liked the back of a quilt more than the front!
