Be sure to carry the non-working yarn along the side of the shawl so it keeps the edge neat and prevents big loops of yarn hanging around waiting to snag on something.

A friend saw a similar shawl and asked me to design one for her.

How well it turned out, and how warm the shawl is.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

This pattern is actually easier than it looks. The only tricky part is how slippery the cotton thread can be on those large needles. However after a few rows you'll get into a rhythm and finish it up quickly.
