Is this your project? Can you share instructions or a pattern with the Craftsy community?

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Home Decor

For: Home

Style: Traditional, Classic, Whimsical, Cute, Funky, Holiday, Romantic

Materials

Cotton fabric, cotton batting, cotton and metallic thread, fusible webbing and basting spray.

What was your inspiration?

A friend commissioned me to make something for her round dining table. I was inspired by a very similar design I saw in the keepsake quilting catalogue except there's was larger and had 9 trees. I wanted to do this piece with alternating red and greens, therefore I had to have an even number of trees.

What are you most proud of?

I love the quilting in the centre - I hadn't planned for it to be like that I just started at the outside and worked my way into the centre and the design worked it self out - i love that it ended up looking kind of like candles...

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Don't be afraid to alter other peoples designs, it just takes a bit of thought, time and maths :)

Sure, check the "Keepsake Quilting" website under patterns/christmas & holiday. The link is here: http://www.keepsakequilting.com/productdetail/7543/-------TREES-ALL-AROUND-PATTERN.htm hope that works :)

It never matters what the original design was. Making it your own and putting your twist on it is always a great idea. :) When I first saw the picture, I didn't see trees -- I saw a big snowflake with red and green trim, but now I see the trees. It's kind of like an optical illusion which is awesome. I love how you made use of the practice pieces!

Oh, I do like this one! I don't know what the original looked like, but this adaptation is definitely wonderful! Colors are great, style is gorgeous, and hat center quilting really did turn out fabulously! Even the little practice pieces are perfect accompaniments to the table topper. Is the center appliqued on top of the red and green fabrics?
