For the green version I used Gedifra Samina 04367, as I thought it was an unusual green with a bit of a shine. In the photo it does not look as green as in real life. But the pattern works in any 4ply or DK wool. I used needles size 2.5 mm, 13 beads, and white 4ply for the sewing up and embroidery.
What was your inspiration?
I decided design a Christmas decoration, and was knitting flat trees, when my husband suggested that I make it 3D. I really think that was a great idea, as a hanging decorations can be viewed from lots of angles.
What are you most proud of?
I love the simplicity of this pattern. It is knitted on two needles, and all knit stitches, as I thought this gave it a more tree-like texture. But I am most pleased with its shape. It seems to work well in any wool, so I think it is a great way to make something lovely from those left over bits of yarn that most people have.
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
I would knit a few of these. They are fairly quick to knit, but I think the fun is in adding your own personal touches. If you don't know how to do any of the embroidery stitches the pattern tells you where to find photo tutorials for them on my blog.
