Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Design It, Quilt It: Free-Form Techniques »

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Home Decor

For: Home

Style: Whimsical, Romantic, Cute, Traditional

Materials

Quilting cottons, cotton/poly batting blend, a variety of cotton and poly threads, and the features of my Bernine 830

What was your inspiration?

In addition to Cindy's wonderful course, my left over blocks from a Christmas bed quilt. I wanted to make a quilt from on hand items that would transition the period from Christmas to Valentine's Day

What are you most proud of?

I think I sucessfully used many different techniques to create the quilt. I learned a great deal from the course and attempted to integrate the capabilities of my Bernina 830, the embroidery module, the Bernina V6 software, Free Motion Quilting, and use of spare blocks into a totally new quilt.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Don't be afraid to make mistakes, change your mind, and just go for it.

It is so wonderful on so many level. I love the back too. I was so impressed with the ribbon quilting that had the pebbles in it. That is a cool touch. Your feathers in you hearts were so pretty. I could just go on and on with all the wonderful details I saw. I enjoyed seeing it so much

Your husband is absolutely right - the back is brilliant. All this quilting is amazing.

Added the back photo because my husband really likes the way the back looks. I can see the dimension of the quilting from the back more than from the front. Of course, little bobbles here and there because of starting and stopping and a few tension problems along the way.

Great use of leftover blocks! Your feathers & pebbles look great! LOVE the decorative stitches in the border! I haven't yet explored all the stitches in my 830 - it's almost overwhelming the sheer number of them.
