I used view c. I only used it for the basic shape of the stocking. I used the back collar of the uniform for the cuff of the stocking. On the stocking back I applique'd the lacing from the pants to the top of the stocking. And I used the cuffs as the handle.Difficulty:

I used a WWII Navy uniform that had a lot of moth bites. I took a deep breath and went to work. The stocking was made for my step-father who is a Navy veteran.
What was your inspiration?
It's become a tradition of mine to make new family members Christmas stockings every year. I was at a complete loss on what to get my step-dad this year. Making a stocking for him never even entered my mind until my mother suggested it. As soon as it was put there the idea of using a Navy uniform was instantaneous. The search for a vintage uniform was on as soon as I hung up the phone.
What are you most proud of?
There are so many elements of this stocking that make me proud. The fact that is's a piece of American history is humbling. I love the patches as they add an element of beauty on their own. What I am most going to take away from this project was the look of appreciation and awe from my step-dad. There may have even been a tear in his eye.
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
Take a deep breath and start cutting!
