What are you most proud of? Really happy with the way the escargot design turned out.

What advice would you give someone starting this project? Just go for it!

What an excellent idea! I too don't like waste, but hadn't had the bright idea of making something while practising. Your FMQ is far, far neater than mine! Lovely placements! Well done!

This is the best way to practice. It is what I do. You could make potholders and tablerunners, placemats. But make sure you always take pictures of them so when you give them away you will always have the folder to go back and review how they look on an actual product. I love your placemat. I like to use different colored threads so It will show off my fmq. You should put it on a quilt, looks like you have the designs down.

Thanks. I wasn't quite brave enough for contrasting thread, but I'm getting there. I'm ready to start quilting my BOM and I got some variegated thread for that project with colors that should stand out somewhat but still not be super contrasting. Baby steps. LOL

Keep in mind if your thread breaks, it means that you do not have strong enough thread. There are some out there that will say your settings are all off. But if you find this happening, buy some Guiterman or isacord threads. the isacord threads are better, but I dont know where they sell except online. The Guiterman is sold in fab stores.http://thestitchsanctuary.com/shop/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=189_292 is where I buy mine. Good luck. And I say just step out there and use contrasting threads. The worst that could happen, is you get a quilt for yourself and not to give away. But it is worth the try. you will love it.

I've seen Isacord at several of the quilt shops in this area....especially the Bernina dealers. And in fact I just got some to use for the background fill on the project I'm making for the "Beyond Basic Machine Quilting" class here on Craftsy. I am getting braver in my thread choices. I'm starting to want all that hard work to show. :-) I just quilted a table topper using metallic thread. Held my breath the whole time, but I'm really happy with the results.
