Magic Circle: 10 sc in ring. Close with slip stitch. Pull to close. Ch. 2. 2dc in SAME stitch you just slipped (for this hat, the ch.2 will NOT count as your first stitch). 2dc in every stitch around. 20 stitches. sl st. in 1st. dc. ch.2 1dc in SAME stitch you just slipped, *2dc in next stitch, 1dc next stitch*, around. Repeat increases for desired size. This hat fit a one-year-old, so I increased each round until I was up to dc in next 4, 2dc in next stitch.
I'm not a pattern writer, so bear with me! After I do all the increasing, I continue my slip stitch in 1st dc, ch.2, then dc in each stitch around (including that sl st) until desired length. Then, I switch to a ch.1, sc (in same slip stitch) for one round. The last round: I switched to my pink yarn in that sl st and do a picot around, then fasten off. For my picot: ch. 2 in slip stitch, sc in next stitch, *ch.2, sc in next stitch* all the way around.
For the flower: I did a simple chain stitch flower. Don't remember exactly how, but I just make a small ring, and I chain 8, then sl st in ring over and over until it's the size I like. I pull the string tight to close the circle, then attach with the main body yarn color and make a little star of sorts to anchor it on, but you could use a button as well.
I hope that is clear, if not, let me know and maybe I can search on-line for a similar pattern that is written out better!Magic Circle: 10 sc in ring. Close with slip stitch. Pull to close.
