100% black cotton sheeting, polyester lining and 100% cotton thread for the embroidery. the buttons were made from cord.
What was your inspiration?
My friends 12 year old daughter, Julia, loves Pirates of the Carribean and I wanted to make her this jacket. (The mannequin doesn't do it justice as Julia doesn't have a bust and the jacket is too small for it.) Julia lives in germany and I took measurements when there last spring, made it a size bigger and posted it to her in December 2011.
What are you most proud of?
All of it.
It was my first attempt at free machine embroidery.
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
I was daunted at first, but was really proud of the finished wffect. I just stayed calm and went for it. This project was made with relatively cheap materials, as it would only fit a growing girl for a short length of time. I would recommend using fine wool for the coat material and experimenting with various threads to do the machine embroidery.
