Materials
Soft worsted weight yarn, in 6 oz. (170 g) skeins - Red (8 skeins) and Black (7 skeins); and a size H (5.00 mm) crochet hook.
What was your inspiration?
Since one of my son's college majors was Chinese, I wanted to design an afghan with a Chinese theme for his apartment.
What are you most proud of?
I am so happy with the way the lattice pattern turned out. My son loves it too!
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
This is not as complicated as it looks! The reversible design was achieved by alternating rows of red and black, using a combination of sc and long hdc which are worked into the previous row. The long hdc are worked with one color on odd rows and the contrasting color on even rows creating the reversible effect. A length of yarn is left at each end on all the rows for the fringe. A design chart is included with the pattern for reference.
The finished size is 54" wide x 66" long (not including fringe).
