Instructions

To make it stronger (and because I haven't mastered my serger) I added bias tape to the handle edges and used French seams on all the inside seams.

Difficulty:

Category: Sewing

Type of item: Functional

For: Women

Style: Funky

Materials

Some cute cotton print that I got from the clearance bin at JoAnn Fabrics a while back. The rest of the supplies and fabrics were in my stash, as well.

What was your inspiration?

A fellow Raveller had posted a picture of her finished Charlie. I was looking for a Christmas gift project for a certain person and this was it.

What are you most proud of?

I didn't have quite enough of the print so added some solid black to the bottom. It turned out very well.

I am currently having a bit of a love affair with bias tape. I didn't have double fold so ironed over some single fold being sure to leave one side wider than the other.

I had never sewn flat felled or French seams before. Love them! I'm sure I made this bag harder than it needed to be but I wanted it to be quality.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Google "Charlie Bag" and you will find all sorts of different options including facings or a full lining. This bag is very versatile.

Now I need to make one for me!
